Lily was sat in a chair in the common room near the fire. Her red hair was scraped into a bun at the back of her head and she had long changed out of her robes and into a set of pyjamas. Her feet were tucked up under herself and the prospect of sleep was beginning to seem inviting. She closed the book that was in her hands and placed it on her lap. Being back at the castle was definitely something she loved. Especially with how lonely the summer had been. Petunia had announced her engagement to that oaf, Vernon Dursley and Lily had had to bite her tongue and be polite. If there was anyone who made Petty worse than what she was around Lily it was Vernon. He stood for no nonsense and Lily had had to hide all books when he was around.
She let out a small sighed and shook her head. Add the fact that she and Severus were still not talking and it had been a very lonely few months. Lily highly doubted anything would go back to the way it had been with Severus and it still hurt her. She felt her cheeks burn from embarrassment, even now, over what he had called her that day out on the lawns. And if James Potter and his lackies had left Snape alone this may never have happened. Or maybe that was what Lily told herself to make herself feel better. She had avoided Severus and the rest of Slytherin house as much as physically possible but she knew she would not be able to hide for the next two years.
The warmth of the fire washed over her and Lily tried to clear her head. If she kept thinking she would wind herself up tight and wouldn't be able to get any sleep. She settled herself deeper into the chair and closed her eyes.
