ALIAS:
Emilia sat on the pebbly sand, her hair that escaped her hat blowing slightly in the gentle breeze. She had a small smile tugging on the corners of mouth, watching her dog playfully chase the lapping waves as they rushed up and down the shoreline.. Ruby had grown so much over the last three months, hair sprouting in a golden shaggy coat, her paws starting to match her body.
Emilia adjusted her hat, pulling it down over her ears, trying to shelter them from the cold. She couldn't believe how soft she had gotten over the past year. The summer had been hot, and the sharp cooling of weather had made her prematurely take out her warmer clothes. You wouldn't be able to tell she had grown up on the Yorkshire moors in a big draughty house. If anything, the weather was mild now, but she had started to feel it much more now her home was empty.
Glancing down the beach, she smiled at the younger members of the community, the ones that hadn't yet left for school , enjoying the last few weeks of holidays. She couldn't help but feel a little old looking at them, even though she couldn't be more than three or four years older than them. There were a mix of girls and boys, sitting and laughing in the sand, bottles of beer laying about.
A loud barking interrupted the peace, and Em watched horrified as Ruby tore across the beach towards the group of young adults, stopping and barking loudly at them. Groaning internally, Emilia pulled herself to her feet, and dusted off the sand from her jeans before jogging over to the group. Lead in hand, she called her dog as sternly as possible, but the dog just looked at her dumbly, wagging her tail and barking even louder.
"I'm so sorry about this." Em said quickly, towards the closest member of the group, reaching down the grab Ruby the collar and clipping her to her lead. She shushed her in a slightly unsure attempt to quieten her young dog. She thankfully took the hint, sitting down in a poof of sand, her tail sweeping from side to side.
Emilia looked over at the young man in front of her. She judged he was about three years younger than her, a little taller, with blonde hair pulled back in a pony tail. She couldn't help but notice he was rather handsome, in a slightly rugged, arty, finding-myself kind of way. She smiled apologetically at him, stepping closer to Ruby. "Sorry, again." she nodded her head a little, knowing full well she was being over the top, embarrassing herself almost.
